Our Programs

Emergency Home Repair

ASSIST’s Emergency Home Repair (EHR) program provides immediate attention to serious housing conditions that affect the health, safety or well being of low-income residents. EHR is designed for senior citizens and low-income home owners, buyers, and in special cases renters.

The program offers repair services at no cost to qualified households for life safety or critical home repair problems. No liens will be placed on the home as a result of the repairs. The repair work on your home will be performed by qualified local, licensed and insured contractors.

Aging in Place Initiative

Preventative safety improvements allow us to remain in our homes and avoid injuries as we age. Particular emphasis is placed on measures to prevent falls especially on stairways or in the bathroom. ASSIST can perform an assessment at no cost to suggest possible safety modifications so that existing infirmities do not become future disabilities. ASSIST has developed a Home Owners Checklist for Aging in Place Features that can be used to evaluate the safety of your home.

Community Design

ASSIST provides architectural design, community planning and development assistance to nonprofit and community groups especially at the early stages of the project development before feasibility or funding has been determined. Typical projects include adaptive reuse of existing buildings and developing design alternatives for public improvements in disadvantaged or underserved communities.

Get Involved

ASSIST is a private non-profit that was founded in 1969.  We provide emergency home repair assistance to low income families and architectural design assistance to persons with disabilities or other needs.  Our organization provides grant assistance to over 500+ families per year addressing numerous housing repair issues. We receive funding through the Federal Government via CDBG grants – Community Development Block Grants.  Women and minority owned businesses are encouraged to apply.

Basic requirements include completing the attached “Contractor Qualification” form, the attached “Section 3” form, and providing certificates of insurance for General Liability and Worker’s Compensation, with ASSIST Inc named as a certificate holder.
